Institutions and organisations

  • International Alternatives Organizations Database – the site offers a list of organizations working to reduce, refine, and replace animal experiments.


  • Altweb – a clearinghouse for information on alternatives to animal testing. The Alternatives to Animal Testing Web Site offers alternatives news, information, and resources on the Internet and beyond. Altweb is the U.S. home of the journal ALTEX: Alternatives to Animal Experimentation.


  • CAAT – The Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is a small, non-profit center. It is dedicated to improving health for both people and animals. It promotes humane science by supporting the creation, development, validation, and use of alternatives to animals in research, product safety testing, and education.


  • Americans For Medical Advancement (AFMA) – a not-for-profit organization that promotes biomedical research and the practice of medicine based on critical thinking and our current understanding of evolutionary and developmental biology, complex systems and genomics. It groups physicians and others who are opposed to biomedical experimentation using animals.


  • EBRA - European Biomedical Research Association - an association of individuals and organizations in the scientific, medical and veterinary professions in the countries of the Council of Europe. EBRA was established to promote understanding of the importance of animals in medical and veterinary research.


  • CCAC 3Rs – the site of Canadian Council on Animal Care. It aims to provide easily accessible, useful, and relevant information and resources related to the concept of 3 Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement) which provides a set of guiding ethical principles that help to minimize harms to animals used in science.


  • University of California Center for Animal Alternatives – a clearinghouse which places special emphasis on disseminating up-to-date information concerning animal alternatives. The site offers numerous links to other online sources, arranged by general subject area.
